Understanding the Levels of Hoarding
Effective hoarding cleanup requires understanding the severity of the situation. We categorize environments based on the Institute for Challenging Disorganization (ICD) scale:
- Level 1 (Clutter): Minor clutter, accessible doors/stairways, no odors. Often resolved with a Starter or Package A.
- Level 2 (Mild): One or more exits blocked, some housekeeping neglect, evidence of pests. typically requires Package A or B.
- Level 3 (Moderate): Visible clutter outside, broken appliances, light structural damage, distinct odors. Requires Package B or C.
- Level 4 (Severe): Structural damage, mold/mildew, excessive pets, sewage backup, hazardous wiring. Requires Package C or Custom.
- Level 5 (Extreme): Major structural damage, lack of power/water, fire hazards, biohazards, human/animal waste. Requires Custom Remediation.
At Hoarding Cleanup, we are equipped to handle all levels discreetly. Our bio-hazard remediation teams have the PPE and training necessary for Level 4 and 5 environments.
